Research & Innovation

Ambition needs a method.

Unity’s research model turns long-range ideas into structured programs with defined maturity, evidence, validation, and clear public claims.

Public status matters. A research concept is not presented as a finished product, a prototype is not presented as a deployed system, and a target is not presented as a verified result.

Research Model

A visible path from idea to capability

Research and development is a core Unity function. The company can investigate advanced concepts while using readiness stages to keep public information accurate and to make funding, partnerships, engineering review, and commercialization easier to manage.

01
Concept

A problem, opportunity, hypothesis, or design direction has been defined but not yet demonstrated.

02
Research

Requirements, prior work, modeling, feasibility, risks, and candidate approaches are being studied.

03
Prototype

A working implementation, model, simulation, or physical prototype exists for controlled evaluation.

04
Validation

Performance, safety, security, reliability, usability, or engineering assumptions are being tested against defined criteria.

05
Pilot

A limited real-world or partner evaluation is used to learn before broader release or deployment.

06
Available

A product, service, publication, or capability has an approved public route and supportable availability claim.

Evidence

Documentation before claims

Research notes, project records, public reports, test results, and approved updates should provide traceable support for externally visible statements.

R&D Principle

Research can be ambitious without pretending the future already exists.

Unity can pursue difficult long-range work while clearly identifying what is theoretical, what has been simulated, what has been built, what has been tested, and what is actually available. That distinction protects credibility and helps partners understand exactly where they can contribute.

EvidenceSupport the statement

Claims should be tied to source material, test data, approved records, or clearly labeled projections.

OwnershipKnow who is responsible

Each program should have accountable owners, reviewers, and publication authority.

ReadinessShow maturity

Use status labels so research, prototypes, pilots, and released products are not confused.

PartnershipsBuild with the right expertise

Universities, companies, research institutions, suppliers, and other approved organizations can extend capability where appropriate.
